OM- Buddha Symbol
tattoo of the Buddha symbol Om, if you look closely at the middle part of the 3 on the right side you can see the shape of a dragon breathing fire, the fire being the other shape on the bottom right connecting to the 3. This tattoo is really symbolic

i brought this picture in to a tattoo shop and they told me that the right half is incorrect... should be circling downward, not upward...

Om is part of the six syllables purifying the six realms of existence in suffering. For example, the syllable Om purifies the neurotic attachment to bliss and pride, which afflict the beings in the realm of the gods. "The mantra Om Mani Pädme Hum is easy to say yet quite powerful, because it contains the essence of the entire teaching. When you say the first syllable Om it is blessed to help you achieve perfection in the practice of generosity, Ma helps perfect the practice of pure ethics, and Ni helps achieve perfection in the practice of tolerance and patience. Päd, the fourth syllable, helps to achieve perfection of perseverance, Me helps achieve perfection in the practice of concentration, and the final sixth syllable Hum helps achieve perfection in the practice of wisdom. So in this way recitation of the mantra helps achieve perfection in the six practices from generosity to wisdom. The path of these six perfections is the path walked by all the Buddhas of the three times. What could then be more meaningful than to say the mantra and accomplish the six perfections?"

I believe buddhists do not mind tattoos if they are non-offensive. I myself have Aum tattooed on my body, the only tattoo I have. I have read much about it and I wanted it on my body so I can think about it and meditate on it everyday. It keeps me grounded. Makes me smile, and helps me remember who I am, and just Be. Peace.

actually, "Aum" or "Om" is both used in Hinduism as well as Buddhism. The Tibetan symbol is called "Om" and is a little different. But the meaning for "Aum" in both religions is very similiar which is primordial vibration. Peace.

lakshmi is right. the only significant connection between Buddhism and the Om is in Buddhism's origin through Hinduism... AND, if you're familiar with the Middle Way of Buddhism... (the non-extremist path to Nirvana) one of the elements is to refrain from self- mortification, which would include tattoos, because inflicting pain on your body is pointless in their beliefs... just one of the many reasons why I don't understand why people think it's appropriate to put the most sacred of all symbols on their body... Also, could someone explain to me why fire is apparently related to the Om/Aum?... there's nothing about it that is specific to fire... You said that this tattoo is symbolic? Symbolic of what? How little you have to know about the Om to get a tattoo of it? I see it more and more, but never have I met someone who really understands and practices what they think they are representing. I guess I'm not much better for saying anything at all, according to Buddhism, but then again, I'm not the one claiming to be a Buddhist.
