Telugu is the second-largest spoken language in India after Hindi. It is the official language of the state of Andhra Pradesh.
The language has its roots in ancient India, dating back to 1,000 B.C. It belongs to the Central Dravidian language subfamily, with up to 19 dialects.

The script is syllabic in nature, and written from left to right. Syllables are composed of basic units such as vowels (there are 16 of them), and consonants (41), along with 3 vowel modifiers.
